Maximus was enjoying a nice hot cup of calisun, on the bridge. Sir we have an incoming message from commander of the Kaga. Message states, initial plan aborted, reason "echo sierra", Switching to beta plan. anything else? No sir that's all. Maximus frowned. Thinking to himself ah "the best laid plans of risen and men,".... Well continue to monitor that ensign, and send a copy to Warchild. Aye sir. Any word from, Sihio or Yukaze? Sir , no sir. Well "no news is good news" i guess I will be in my cabin, Mars , she's all yours. Sir yes sir! Mars left the XO console, and seated himself in the commanders chair , as Maximus beamed out to his cabin.

The message light flashed over maximus's desk. He looked at the message scrolling out over the top of the screen. It was from the,Kaga. It simply read. Beta successful, status Charley. Well that was a bit of good news. Nothing ventured nothing gained, he thought. But still it was a close call. The commander Garin loris. Had done well. But there was till a threat to deal with . Now he had to make up his mind . The first thought he had was, the bigger they are the harder they fall. the second thought was " over confidence betrays trust". This would be tricky , he knew so little about this enemy. From the messages he had received . He did know a few things however. Arrogant, and also aggressive. That was a deadly combination if their ships were as good as they boasted. He had some veteran commanders , out there. And they were not afraid of facing a superior opponent. They had done so before. during his last campaign. While assigned to aid the Lyran nation in it's war with the Mirak. His ships were of a older but capable design. And the commanders had used them to the utmost of their capabilities. Dealing defeats to the "superior" forces of the Mirak fleets. The old maxim over the door in the R.S.E. training academy came to mind. "It's not the ship you face that will kill you. It's the commander and crew of if it!" Still it never hurt to have a little extra firepower, He thought.

Ensign, Tao-lin Eros sat on his bunk. Legs dangling over the edge. He was reading a tech manual. Rubbing his eyes , and yawning he set it aside, on his pillow. Oh the excitement of it all!! The reading was tedious, but needed. He had been training with these systems since they were first built He had even worked with the engineering crew on the console interface. But, as with any new system "Lockems law held true." Whenever you think you know, how it will respond...." Just before coming off his last shift he had run a test scenerio. Now he had to figure out. Why it responded, the way it had. He did not want to have Regailus's wrath directed at him! This mission was assinged to their ship by the Sub-Praetor himself. That meant no failures were accetable, none! As a mere ensign he was at the bottom of the proverbel hill. And every officer knew what rolled down hill! No, it's far better to figure this out before his next shift. So.... Reaching back he picked up the manual again. Page 314 sub section A a paragraph 2 , When exiting Hyper Space....... Arrrrgh {sigh}....

Sir...... Here take these , and have copies sent Warchild and Proclaimous. Sir , yes sir. Maximus , stretched out his legs and then propped his feet up on the edge of his desk. So one crises averted, "hopefully". But he now had more concerns. The report from the Tal-Shair. Made him aware of a possible alliance he didn't think of before. Well he had thought of it but... After learning the histories of all the nations. He had put that possibility down as nil. Now the Tal-Shair had evidence that hinted... The B5 galaxy was a strange indeed. Remembering the advice of one of his mentors. Admiral Togga Roflmas , "Walk softy and carry a large Tonga"
He always admired Togga. The man trusted only himself and his very shrewd and aged mother. He never let on what he thought. Whether it was on how he felt about a fellow officer, or opponent. Yet he always seemed to find a way. To be where he had to be. Whenever something happened. It was Togga who given him the warning about the traitorous ambassador Spook. He had been a double agent. In fact he was a Vulcan. Who had infiltrated the diplomatic core. Fooling even the Tal-Shair security at the time. His mission to work his way up into. Being assigned as ambassador to the Tholians. A mission, he had succeeded at. But Togga, found him out. And gave the information to me. A newly promoted captain. I had been his latest XO, on his Dreadnought, Before moving on to command my first ship. I was in command of the Hermes, a medium Cruiser patrolling the Tholian border. How he had found out Spook. He never let on. But it had provided a tremendous boost to my career. Shortly after the silent disposal of the ambassador I was given command of my first battle squadron. And the rest as the saying goes is history. Maximus glanced over the Tonga in it's scabbard, leaning in the corner of his cabin. A ceremonial blade"for his dress uniform'. But still a deadly weapon of the ancient Shair warriors. Don't worry Togga ,old friend, I will heed their warnings. But as for trusting them......

Proclaimous rushed through the corriders of B5. No one saw him running . Of course, it wouldn't pay to for him to be seen running about! He is the Romulan ambassador! But run he did, and without stopping, till he reached his quarters. Once safely inside. He deactavited his personel cloaking device. Hurried over to his desk. Pulled out tightbeam equippment. And sent his message.....

Maximus saw the message light wink on at the comm station. He watched without looking at the young ensign there. Appearing to be more interested in some documents on his console. He waited for the ensigns report. His console had the C.E.O. warning scroll across it. Mildly surprised he open the Commander's eyes only message. From Ambassador, Proclaimous, Sir, i have verifcation. The Tal-Shair were wrong! There is not!! An alliance between the Lyrans and one of the ancient races! Or least not the Vorlons In fact they have just completed a battle with the [glow=red,2,300]VORLONS![/glow]. The news that the vorlons still exsisted. Was indeed worthy of the CEO status for the message. It went on... The battle at a still undisclosed location. Resulted in the loss of 3 Lyran ships. With unknown damage to the Vorlons. But he suspects none if any! They were large vessels. More to the point it meant that the Lyrans had, most likely moved into the Vorlon nebula. Possibly even to the homeworld. That brought them closer to Romulan space! The loss of the their fleet. Did not bother Maximus. Better to have them fighting the Vorlons. Than popping out,of the Vorlon nebula. Nearer to our homeworld! Still they lost an entire fleet! the Vorlon menace it seems was one to take very seriously! The Lyrans may very well have "slipped loose the dogs of war", on other nations as well as themselves! Who's to know what the Vorlon responce would be to the violation of thier space? the mission of the Sihio was increasing in importance. The ancient weapon. And possibly other secerts, of the ancients. Just may save not only his nation. But the others as well! Ah, Regailus don't let us down now!....

100,000 and closing. sir Red alert, combat stations, sensors i want'em probed ! Sir yes sir probe away sir! Comm send to Soryu and Kuma, battle plan Theta. Aye sie sending. 80,000 closing speed 25,000k each. Thier weapons are armed. shileds full. No fighters, or shuttles. Looks like they mean business sir. Yes they certainly do, don't they? Sir kuma and Soryu, confirming theta. The Soryu is asking if they can prep a decoy. Tell them no. We haven't seen any seeking weapons yet. 70,000 sir and they are coming straight at a us. Helm , engage. Aye sir beginning Theta manuvers. The Aoga shiverd slightly as the erratic's began, jigging the massive ship . First one way then the other. Her counter measures automaticaly. raised to thier highest setting. The young ensign at the sensor station began to sweat. It was hard work tracking enemy ships while your vessel was in it's maximum evasve mode. Sir no change, still coming straight in, speed constant , i make it....30k each! Seem to be in a hurry to die, joked Maximus. The bridge crew chuckled at thier commanders humor. Maximus new how importent it was for his crew to relax but stilll be alert going into battle. Wishing he felt inside, as confident as he appeared on the outside. No going back now. He had chosen to take the fight to the intruders. Rather than wait for them to reach is homeworld. The sensor bouys had alerted them as soon as the threat appered. Now all the planning and training would be put to the ultimate test. 55, 000 still 30k, Some tightbeam transmissions between them sir. unable to break the code. Well, we have talking , to themselves now! Joked maximus. Anthor chuckle ran through the bridge crew. 45,000, 40,000. 35,000 still coming straight at us sir. Sir i have the probes rearmed. one standard and one attack, Yes fine, thier weapons ? Dizzys sir just as we thought, along with A, and B phasers sir. looks like they have self defense phasers as well. The probes picked up unindentfied heavy mounts as well. They resemble ESG's but they are different somehow. 30,000....... 25,000....FIRING SIR! Nothing hit the , Aoga . But both the Soryu and the Kuma's forward shileds glowed with the impact from enemies opening volly. Sir messages from both kuma and Soryu. reporting thier weapons are disabled! Tell them to hold to plan. Thier weapons will come back , it's tempoary. Any other damage? No sir the reinforcement held along with the evasve. It seems to have limtited the effectiveness of the assualt. Good, Helm lets pick a little speed now shall we. 28k please. Aye sir, 28 it is! bring us off erratics. Aye sir dropping erratics. Inform Soryu and Kuma to follow suit. Lets see what how they like our anwser!......

Maximus stared down at the wreckage that had been his bridge. A Smokey haze drifted around most of the consoles, The damage displays were all showing massive "red sections," and many "black" ones as well. The black indicated destroyed "beyond repair". The red "temporarily disabled" . The crew looked awful, frightened and more than a bit uneasy. He lifted his arm and waving his hand, "the signal." It was over, almost a complete failure. They had destroyed a CA, but in turn they had lost a CA, and a CL. Plus his own ship was a wreck. Evading at sub-light under cloak. He shook his head, The opening volley had been painful but not too. They then went in for a closing shot. During the rearming cycle. That was not well timed . And the CL in his squadron choose the wrong target. They paid dearly for that mistake. The Pseudo Fighters that came spilling out after there initial assault. All went after the CL. Fresh out of plasma, and needing to rearm, that Capitan made his second mistake, Instead of sticking with it's squadron mates they tried to evade the fighters. By launching a decoy and cloaking. It worked ,for a few minutes. The fighters heavy weapons missed. What that captain, didn't count on, was the Tremendous close in fire power of the fighters phasers. Despite his cloak. they shredded his shields. . Then the Ca's returned and finished the job! Once again his Squadron closed in. This time his remaining ship tractored the trailing CA, As it slowed to retrieve it's fighters. And between the two of them, and a little help from a some suicide shuttles they crippled the CA. As they broke off to rearm. The other CA relaunched it's fighters. and in turn. Trctored his squadron mate. It took just seconds for the fighters and the CA to destroy it. Maximus enraged at his losses. Turned his ship ordering rapid loads on all his heavy weapons, he closed with the crippled CA. And destroyed it. The cost of quick charging his weapons cost him however. As it slowed them down. And gave the remaining lone CA time enough to rearm it's self. It closed and savaged Them. Luckily for Maximus the fighters were still out of range for their weapons. Knowing he was heavily out gunned and already damaged. he used his decoy and cloak to evade . Before, the fighters could close again. So much for the Theta attack! he thought. As he dropped his arm back onto the armrest of his command chair. The lights on his bridge came back to normal , the simulated damage on the consoles winked back to their normal status. And the "injured and dead" arose from the deck to resume their duties.
The simulation was over. They would learn from their mistakes. And Run more in the future. But for now. Maximus had a few choice words for the commander of the Cl!.....

Ensign Eros was tense, they had travled quitely, through Hyper space. To reach this sector. He had been reading, and rereading the tech manuals.Till his eyes hurt! The simulations he had been practcing with, were second nature to him now. He felt confident in his ablities. The Sihio had reached it's first Hyper drop point. The crew was excited. Regailus looked like a statue. Calm as could be. Eros studied him out of the corner of his eye. He knew his commander probaly better than any other officer on the bridge. with the exception of the XO. Ensign, Eros, are we ready? Yes sir we are! Helm , 1/3 , Ensign Eros you know the routine. Yes sir. Very well take us "down" ensign. Eros's fingers flew over his command pad. There was feeling of being stuck in a dream. Not able to wake. A slight blurring of, ones vision. As the colors of hyper space changed to the colors of normal space. Then a lurching jolt as the transition completed itself. Eros looked down at his console. the readings began to flow across it. One sector ahead lay there goal. and his reading for that sector showed......

Ensign , Garth approached the door with dread. Don't kill the messenger he kept thinking. Knocking softly he waited for a response. Maximus awoke to the sound at his cabin door. Swinging himself up and out of bed in a single motion. He been sleeping lightly awaiting word on the fate of the Light Cruiser, Takeo, He slipped into his robe and went to the door. Opening it quickly. Garth, snatched back his fist in mid-stroke. One more centimeter, and it would of punched the Sub-Praetor, right in the nose! , Ah ,oh , um sorry to awaken you sir. Yes yes, it's fine ensign. You um, have some news for me, perhaps? Stunned at the sudden appearance of the Sub-Praetor. Garth fumbled and pulled out the message ,handing it to Maximus. He took a step back and snapped to attention. Maximus took the offered message, and quickly read it. It was not good news. The light Cruiser Takeo was presumed lost. There had been no contact after it went to investigate it's sighting of a unknown races frigate. Looking up he gave a dismissive shrug to the young ensign at his door. A frigate, just a frigate? Maximus was disturbed, The Takeo should have been able to destroy any normal frigate. Or at least it should of been able to cloak and disengage. Now we have not only had lost a ship. But there wasn't even a report on who's frigate it was! He knew that it probably was not Lyran, or ISC. As the Takeo had standing orders to report any sightings of either of those two races. Before engaging them. He knew the location of the Centari frigate . near that sector. So that left?.....Pirates? or maybe.... yes maybe one of those ships the EA claimed to have encountered. If that was the case. What does it mean? Was, it a scout ship, probing for an even larger force? Rubbing his eyes, and summoning his steward to get him some calisum. Maximus decided to dress and head for the bridge. Looks like the free ride was over. War had found it's way to the Romulans doorstep.

Maximus reached down and picked up the last bit of paper from his desktop. A copy of the report from the accounting office. A sigh escaped as he looked down at the endless column of numbers. there at the bottom of the page it was, in red. The amount not accounted for in all the above expenditures. And small note from the head accountant. asking if he could have a private "word" with him. Well i knew this was coming . Is all maximus could think. he summoned his aide. And true to form the door chime sounded 7 seconds after his summons. "someday i will have find out how he reads my mind he thought'. Yes sir? Um yes, tell Digitus Tracker, his request for a "word" is granted. have him report to me asap. Yes sir! A short while latter the tentative knock at his door sounded the arrival of Digitus. Come in. Sir thank you for for th th th hon hon honer of al allo allowing mmmm me tthis ummm ahhh er that is for giv giv giving me Oh just sit down Digitus! I have gone over your report. and i know perfectly well, why you wanted to see me. It's this unaccounted expenditure. Isn't it? Ah umm errr ah yes sir, well you see sir ah umm well i neeed to be very precise in ac acco accounting of al all the mon mon mon money sssir. Maximus never could understand such a timid stuttering fool could have ever risen to as high a post as Digitus had. But here he was the one man who actually knew where every credit was spent, throughout the entire empire. Maximus thought darkly "knowledge is power" And the thought of such power in this timid weasels hands made him shudder. QUIET!! Digitus sat back in his chair jaw dropping and he came to attention while still sitting! Now i am going to explain something to you . Something you ARE going to keep to yourself, Digitus. Do you understand that? don't bother to answer just nod. Digitus's head bobbed up and down . Excellent, now as your report shows there is a sum of EVP that seems to have gone unaccounted for in this anums accounting. The sum is not important. What is important is this. You WILL alter the report so it appears that everything is fine. Or you may, just get a visit from . One of Commander Secretary, Secertus young men. You wouldn't want that to happen now would you? Digitus squirmed about on the chair as if he was sitting on a hive of fire beetles. Nnnnnn uh nnnnooo ssSir iii wou wouu wouldn't. Good we understand each other perfectly i believe. Now i don't wish to bring the Tal-Shair into this anymore than you would like to have them visit you. But if i so much as suspect any of this conversation of ours .... Well i am sure my good friend Secertus, would be willing to help with the disposal of....... Now GET OUT! Digitus shot to his feet and stumbling back-wards to the door. fumbling for the opening panel. He awkwardly saluted and fled !! Maximus calmly circled back to his desk and picked up the copy-sheet. and with an air of satisfaction placed in the disintegration chute. He sat down and thought well it's a good thing that little weasel doesn't know . Secertus really hates me! ;D But then as long as the report gets fixed. I can settle with that little weasel before the next anum report comes due.
