I believe in Dflys absence that the roster has not been updated. I suspect this is why he has requested knowledge of those who flew,.. without it how can he/or anyone update the roster. If folks cannot tell who is flying likely the next battle will be a tougher one to do.
Those who know who flew, when he and I were away and know who was in the battle please post it.

My humble and not so important opinion is.....
1. Flying the battles is what we are here to do...for the most part. If a player doesn't show up for a scheduled battle, that s/he is flying then that needs to be documented. His name goes to the bottom of the list. After three missed battles, i.e., three strikes and your out, the player is replaced similar to "replacement of a player" else where in the rules.
2. As the rules state, AI is the worse case/ last resort senario for a battle. Taking into light the above, #1, if there are any nation players present, they can take the missing player's position.

1. We don't like moving an absent player to the bottom. There could come a time when a novice player may be encouraged to not show up, to get him back to the bottom. By forcing them to stay at the top if absent, it makes them have to fly, if not today, soon. I do like the three strikes your out, specially when we have a player dedicated waiting to play.
2. That has sorta become the norm with more than one sub present incase of mass absentism. We have seen the battles be all subs as the regularly scheduled pilots failed to show.
Any time we introduce a new rules set to a game, like teams game and manditory open battles there will be growing pains no matter how long we work on the rules prior to game start.
This is why I recommend new rules be introduced slowly, not a lot at once, and in general avoid new rules unless your willing to endure headaches during the game.
PS all opinions are important.
