I have a problem with using the jumpgates, as they are. Let's say I send my ships up into the top realm, through a jumpgate. When I get to the next one, and I am about to go down, it is turned off. I am now stuck up there? Unless I have that rocket thing.?

Ya one of my worries is that most players will just leave them off,.. Folks flying around in there will just waste their time. You would not see me turn them on. Fer what? Strip my nation of ships sent on some journey to another gate that maybe/likely be closed.

it's one of the risks involved if you're going to attack someone... people have been known to get lost in hyperspace only to pop up weeks later halfway across the galaxy
(There are several plot based incentives for going into hyperspace)
also the plan is to have a realitively inexpensive "science" ship (heavy shields nearly no weapons) that comes with a jumpdrive so players have a ship (or two) that can freely muck around in hyperspace

yes... but whoever "owns" them can turn them on or off so you'd just need to co-ordinate turning the gate back on with your fleet coming back through.

So if I come back home because I cannot find an open on. What if a fleet is waiting there for me to open mine. So then two fleets are sitting there, is there battle in Hyperspace, or do we just sit there? I forget if you stated this earlier and cannot parouse the rule right now.

you would just sit there... there are no battles in hyperspace and there is no stacking limit in hyperspace.... as soon as both fleets went through the gate there would be a battle though

I have a thought.... add something along the following.
ships within bla(4?) hexes of a jump gate will know wether it is on, off, or powering up/down?
OR
since there would be merchant traffic moving through them also just make it public knowlege of the gate's status.

I thought we said earlier no merchant traffic through them. If you allow ep movement through them you will need to make complicated rules as to what happens when they close and open.
So if 9 ships are outside my gate (3 are mine) and it opens who gets through?
Just poking away so you can close up loose ends
