Well that is not to say don't do it, I just wonder what your thoughts on those concerns are.
It is likely that with a only two sided game it will be all out fist a cuffs. That is the way All Out War went. There is little option for negotiation after all.
I think we all be pretty busy with Teams game and see many frequent battles.
PS I would consider upping production rates to help with ship replacements on the front lines. Normally as a Ref it good to have really slow build rates but I think in this game maybe that should change. I think race commanders ought to be in charge of who gets which ship replacements. Maybe even have a reserve fleet of those crappy National Gaurd ships as emergency replacements.

I'm thinking on a small scale. A portion of the border, small fleets, reserve fleets, overall commanders, Commerce commanders, and of course, pirates. The neutral zone would be two or three hexes wide. twelve players, though fourteen will do as well

Depending on races the boarders may be small. I have a hard time analyzing what races are best and would go with whatever the experts suggest. I would hate a lopsided game.

Klingo-Fed seems to be the most logical choice. Although Klingo-mirak might be doable. Besides, you all may be sick of Feds

I would like to see a lyran/ fed or lyran/ hydran ,though of course the best would be a fed /rom. The fear of long running plamsma battles usally won't happen in a rom fed battle too often, as feds tend to have more punch. And the ablitity to hit at longer range than the rom ,"IE" proxs. But with the cloak and their speed and better turn rates the roms are able to make it an interesting battle. Of course i am prejudiced here.If you know my email address you would know why. And i will point if we play in late era. the advantage {IMHO} swings to the feds heavily because of fast drones. And their fighters.

George if you were considering running two campaigns at the same time,.. Why make this one small scale? If your up for the work load then why not make this a big nice campaign ?
I have rarely seen a plasma battle not be a long running battle. The only way it seems to win and others have taught me is to shut stuff off and run at max speed. If it is not a long running battle then your going to quickly get killed by plasma. I am not a pro on this but that is what I have seen so far?
Commerce Commander? Umm I hope there are some voluntiers for that one,..

By small scale, I was thinking a portion of the front with "interesting" events thrown in. I like players using smaller ships, CL's don't get enough credit. The second campaign was an idea I had, but was probably too much to chew on

You might want to put a vote on that?
I think the ship sizes should match the campaign flavor most of all.
If we are doing a war between nations I hope you don't have only CL's,...

Think WWII frontlines. Every inch of front had commanders, from Corps Commander down to platoon Command. That is my idea, to take a section like that, distribute forces, have pirates, Reserves, Freighters and escorts moving behind the scenes, and a commander( in charge of reserves) overseeing everything. Throw in several interesting events, and mission objectives (the brass love mission objectives). If you players dislike my ideas, I will step down from this chair

Hard to dislike any ideas when they are still just ideas and we are embroiled(word of the day) in a campaign as we speak. I think the best plans are ones that are made, people try first, and then decide on the outcome. I so far like it.

Commerce Commander will be a busy position with freighter runs and protecting his ships from pirates and raiding ships
