I was parousing dyna and saw this post but had never heard of these things. Warning if they are really usable maybe they best not be discussed as I would hate to wreck our game.
But what the heck are these things?

Almost... Fortunately u can spot the turn mode cheat... the ppd cheat can be mitigated, but there's nothing to do about the shield cheat other than equal opportunity enjoyment... EDIT: oops! forgot the most imortant cheat of all! Dropping an admin shuttle on Tool.

it's done by going in and editing some sections of code within the game to give a false feedback... I stumbled on the PPD one when i was playtesting some ships accidentially (was using excel instead of shipedit) ... It's DOABLE but they're usually pretty obvious and you have to have extensive knowlege of how the various game files interact. AKA the few people who might be able to manage I trust enough that they wouldn't do it.

There were several things that could be done in 3.2 shiplist that were corrected in 4.0, such as shielding. Of course, there still is a way to do what they call majic shields, but it does not work like a cheat, but properly now(or as close as proper). In all my years, I have never used it, with simple exception to test it vs AI, and I found it was not worth it. There used to be complaints about a PPD cheat, and Shalafi describes it well. The only other PPD cheat I have ever seen, and was actually accused of, was when a PPD seems to fire more than 4 pulses. THis only happens when a ship has 2 or more ppds. If you fire one, wait say 3 pulses, then fire the other, there are as many as 7 individual pulses hitting. Some players called this a cheat cause they could not understand how a ppd could hit more than 4 times at range over 9. They were wrong, just not happy when they lost. I am sure there are always a one or 2 guys who would try to exploit these possibilities, but as he says, they are usually visible. One or 2 others: fast loading Plasmas,,,, does not work as it used to in previous shiplists(before 4.0). forgot the others
The absolute best way to improve, is to fly, and fly often, and fly vs those that are better than your skills at the time, and ask questions, or try different tactics, till you find something that works, or seems to. getting training is very valuable, but you need to commit to the training, because it takes time, and there is so much you can learn it will scare you.
PS: what was it that you had asked me to find intel on? Warp was with us when you talked about it. I cant remember if it was ISC tactic sheet, or Plasma ship tactics, or what. I went looking in my files, but nothing jogged my memory enough to say i could remember.

actually there's another PPD glitch... if you have a single mount with more than 2 PPD's the game flips out and you can continously fire them with no gap in the middle.... O.o Klingon D7... 7 second battle

ah true, but, there are no ships of such design in the 4.0, only if you mod/build one.

here so far is the only reference I have found, in my files: 2. Lyran are saber dancers: This approach promotes using the disruptors to chip away at an opponent (saber dance) like a Klingon and the ESG to defend against drones, shuttles, and overrun. This tactic works well with Lyran ships that have an FX arc disruptor mount. Shutting off the FA-only mounts allows for power to trickle into the capacitors while moving at high speed and providing ECCM power. This works particularly well against Plasma races. In teams, concentrate all fire on one ship at a time. Shalafi found this one: Saber Dance -- a tactic favored by Klingons. Basically, it maneuvers staying just out of overload range to "wear down" the opponent, who lacks the speed to get into overload range. Statistically the disruptors have a better to-hit percentage than other weapons at range 12-15. The superior maneuverability of the Klingon ships and extended firing arcs facilitates that. Shalafi suggests this webpage with good info: www.the-spoiler.com/STRATEGY/Interplay/starfleet.command.1.html

It is going to happen, just not sure when. It depends on how fast our coders can find time to code. Remember, all of the coders have full time jobs. I will be one of the first to see it when it goes to alpha and beta.

I still use the old FTP from a ladder league fleet called Xenocorp from back in the StarLance and GamerZ Leagues... It has a lot of material and it's usually the source for all my SFC OP files, check it out: ftp.xenocorp.net/I have no idea who mantains this, but I'm glad he/she did ;D
