It was Presidents Day in the Earth Alliance,.. Sheridan thought back to all the great leaders that came before him. Washington, Lincoln, FDR JFK, Bush Jr., etc.
He sat back and poured another drink. The VP had provided another data dump for review, allies had more comms,.. more requests for data, a never ending pile of signatures required,.. He felt tired. The years had worn on Sheridan and the gray in his beardS had become more pronounced.
The data dump was rich,.. 24 reports since he last logged in. As expected Ho Chi had been on top of it all, and CC'ed the President in it on the chatter. Ho Chi had worked every angle, evaluated all the possible outcomes, and made wise choices,... Ho Chi was relentless. His ambition reminded Sheridan of his own,.. long ago,.. long ago.
Another drink was poured, and the President wondered what had happened,.. where was his spark. The light of Ho Chi had blinded his own feeble rays. The torch had been passed. Ho Chi now had been given command of all the fleets, guided production and now had taken over most all negotiation for the,... the,.. Empire as the Lyrans would call us.
Sheridan started to peel though the reports,.. the Vorlon comms,.. Minbari calls, Federation fleet dispositions.. latest data on the InterGalactic Gun/Galactic Sheild Generator/Gate to H-space (it had an ever changing name),.. Even Maximus had send a comm from his vacation on a remote planet called Hawaii. Trouble in Romulan Empire,.. worrisome news of Warchild. Sherdian was not a religious man,.. but said a prayer none the less. God bless them both and all the people of the Romulan Empire.
Sheridan put down the paperwork,.. his thoughts drifted to Dellen. What a great Valentines Day he had had with her, she had almost forgotten the ISC home world debacle. Sheridan had become detached from this galaxy,.. his mind drifted in a better world. It was a place in which there was no war. There was no strife,.. just a place of love and companionship with another.
He smiled and poured another drink,.. Nearby a screen lit up showing the incoming fleets on B5. Narn, Lyran, ISC,.. likely Cylon,.. who knows what/or who else.
Sherdin kicked his fleet up on the desk and finished off the single malt scotch,.. he drifted off, into a nice sleep dreaming of a better place,.. and of better times.
The smile remained on his face,.. as yet another light on his desk began to flash,... Red Alert.
