Perhaps I'll use a more impressive sounding scale: 9 degree Fahrenheit = 260.3722222 kelvin

OK, now its 8 degrees F ( -13.3 Celsius) Brrrrrrrrr! So question to all: What's the coldest temperature you've ever been in? And where? And the hottest? Where? ME (Coldest): I've been in -22 C in 1996 somewhere between Germany and Poland driving through. That was the actual temps comparable to what my grandfather fought in. Painful and saw real Ice Fog for the first time... ME (Hottest): Stepped off a C-130 military plane in Tucson, Arizona in 1995 and thought I'd melt into the tarmac. It was 120 F. Feels like being a chicken in the oven...

The flagship of the Klingon forces flagship sits dead in space, while the whole crew contingent is busy making all kinds of calculations and banging their small Klingon skulls against the bulkhead.
-"...seven minus thirty-four, times eight point sev..."
The Klingon Communications officer, about to commit sepuku after getting the third conversion wrong again turns to Commander Malex:
-"Commander, my panel is all bleepy, I think someone's hailing us."
-"...hundred and forty one, uh?, oh... onscreen"
The flagship's bridge screen suddenly fills with the image of the Anla'Shok Na wearing sunglasses sipping a strange liquid-holder with an umbrella in it. Behind him, an Orion slave girl rubs sun lotion on his back.
-"Have you petty Klingons learned nothing from 21st Century history?? After a century of clinging to the dead Imperial System the United States was thrown into chaos and it's people turned into savage berserkers by the inefficiency of their ways, just to be assimilated into the great Uruguayan Empire. We will show you the might of the Metric System, you have 2 standard hours to surrender your vessel."
Blip. the great space governs the screen once more.
Commander Malex turns to his Communication officer:
-"Signal Quo'noS, request for an additional shipment of toilet paper"

Hey, I did Team Spirit '93 in Republic of Korea, January -?C and guarding HMMWV's when not doing my real job (making maps). Luckily had to run a few and got to get warmed up occasionally. Mud froze by night, turned to liquid glue by day...suck a boot right off. Ah good Old Ronald Reagan. Those were the days, Cruise Missiles, Star Wars space defense, MX missiles, B1 bombers, and Iran-Contra...the good old days.

Luckily for me I am up north and wish my usual days were as warm as your coldest so far posted. Heat, was to the west coast, Canadian side, back in 1975, and had a heatwave follow us out there. I was playing on top of a mountain in BC, in 115 F in a pile of snow. I met a group of people from Australia up there, and they had NEVER seen snow. They saw us running into it barefooted, and thought it would be ok for them to do it too. Did we ever laugh as they slid, fell, screamed, and continued to scream as they tried their darndest to get out of the snow. They had never ever felt anything so cold, and it was in their clothing from them falling. Talk about a striptease eheheh.
My coldest, well, there have been many days were the actual temperature in our town has been below the -40C, which btw is -40F as well. I do recall one day that hit -45C, and that is most likely my coldest actual temperature. We did however have a day 2 years ago where the wind chill hit a -52C. That was awful.

d**n...you got the coldest... Well, we're at a new two year record (it really doesn't get that cold in Ohio by comparison)...Tomorrow AM is -1F air temp (-10 to -12F) with the high under 8F. They're closing the schools 'cause this stupid area doesn't have shelters for school kids nor bus stops...man, dumb ass town doesn't even have sidewalks but that's another story...I'm not from around here, NYC originally.
Know what you mean about snow on mountains though...my army unit and I went hiking around Mt. Rainier, WA for fun and wore shorts and played in the snow bare chested for hours, was mild weather and climbing makes one really hot!

I'm in what's called the banana belt, along the Snake river, We never really get cold, maybe 10 days below 32*. But the summers can get hot- about two weeks over one hundred!

Closing schools because you have no shelters for the Kids? You got to be kidding. We have NEVER had shelters up here, and never will. They wont freeze, just dress them right. Crap, we dont even close schools unless it is more than a 2 foot drop in snow or we have freezing rain and ice mixed, and even then if you can walk to school, you are expected to be there.

Man! I totally agree with you on that! As I'm not from here it drives me nuts how badly these people drive when snow comes out and I drive a freaking Ford Mustang without problems. As for shelters and such, look, kids stand at the bus-stop with no coats and sometimes even shorts. What kinda parents let their kids go out like that and what kinda morons dress like that in the first place? Agreed! Also, My family is from Europe and knows all about cold winters...they stood outside too. Weak people here...
