Hi i recently tried to host a game. But it did not show up for the other player to join my room. So i have some questions. #1 how do can i tell my IP addy ? I think i have found it but i want to make sure. Is there more than one IP that a person could use to host a game? #2 how do i know if the game is showing up for others to enter? #3 If i do have a firewall problem how would i know ? #4 What must i do to,resolve any firewall problems?

Good thing you bring this up so ppl can read this, cause problems with firewalls are very common and they will surely show up in the future. 1) Your IP addy is probably in your connection details, depending on your connection type you can access this diferent ways. There are probably two blinking computers next to the windows clock on the system tray, double click them then click on the Details tab, it's propbably listed under client IP adress or something. If you have a router you may not see this, so you can check on the router settings or just click here: www.ipnumber.eu/ip/2) The sure way of knowing is having someone that can regularly connect to games try to connect to yours. If you're behind a router you need to forward these ports: 47624, 2300 to 2400 (all of them) and 6500. 3) A good way of knowing is to turn off the firewall and try again. Remember to turn off the windows firewall too (Control Panel -> Windows Firewall on SP2). If the problem persists you should think of your router (if there is one), and if you take that out and it still persists, either you haven't turned off all the firewalls or your ISP is messing with your ports (a few ISPs block some port ranges, usually torrent and P2P ports). 4) I dont know what firewall you have, I have Zone Alarm and it works just fine, but I keep it off most of the time. The truth is, unless you have a server on your PC or some other stuff listening on the internet, if you have a good anti-virus there's no danger of anything being taken over cause... well, there's nothing to take over hehe.

One other thing to note here. If anyone has connection issues during a game, and drop often, or even just drop only when a particular other person is also in the same game, or, if you have a slow connection, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you turn off any and all zonealarms, Anti-Virus programs, etc... You only need to do this for the actual game time, and you can turn them back on right after. Just remember not to surf the web or any such while you are gaming in this mode. The reason is because this game sends a lot of packets back and forth between players, and most anti-virus programs and such check each packet that comes in. THis does slow the information ever so slightly, and in the case of a bad or slow connection, it only makes lag worse, or drops quicker, depending on the case. I feel that if you can game with anyone and have no problems with the current setup you are using, please dont worry too much about what I have posted. If you are dropping regularly, you may need to do this. If you do this and are still dropping regularly, I recommend you tell those in the game to also try a game where everyone there turns off their AVs, and see if you still drop. Remember, he sent you packets, and your system may slow that info down just enough that by the time it gets back to the person with the bad connection, that speed has slowed just enough to start lag, or isssues. But please, "DON'T PANIC." trivia question, who can tell me what book or series of books used those words: "DON'T PANIC"
