The stranger sat with a calm confidence. As one who knew a secret, and knew you had too know, that secret too. The guard stood a few meters away. Blocking the only door. And keeping his weapon leveled at the stranger. In his private bedchamber. Maximus was quickly dressing ,While at the same time, trying to mentally fit together the events, that had unfolded so rapidly. The last seal on his uniform pulled into place. He looked in the mirror. d**n , well it will have to do. Walking over to the bed-stand he gathered up the disc, and cloaking device. Then more calmly than he felt, strode into his office. Glancing once at the guard then quickly over at the stranger. He crossed over to his desk. Sitting down and now looking straight at the stranger. Maximus deliberately ignored him. Placing the disc in the security scanner. and as soon as the green light flashed pulling it out again. Well at least it would/ should be safe to view. He inserted the disc, and despite the pre-scan. Caught himself holding his breath, waiting for. Well he wasn't quite sure, what he was expecting. It didn't take long for the contents to begin scrolling out before him. The beginning of each sentence breaking down. As soon as the next appeared. The whole session took less than 5 minutes. Then the disc auto ejected. And began to dissolve. Maximus had seen these measures before when dealing with information from the Tal-Shair. 5 minutes, just 5 minutes. It seemed like the world turned upside. He did not doubt what he had just learned. He did not doubt what it would mean. And his doubts about the stranger oddly were now even greater than before. Why had the Tal-Shair chosen him? What game were they at now? And most important of all. What would he do with the information . Well one thing that needed doing was checking up on Proclaimous. Lets see, if what the stranger had said about his health, was the truth. Then, yes then, the choices too follow would be tougher indeed....TBC

Maximus stood next to the stranger. The frown , the same one, from the first time he had , had to deal with him. Well your free to leave, Mr? The stranger merely nodded, and ignored the attempt of finding out his name. He just quietly started walking toward the shuttle. Maximus hadn't liked supplying him with the shuttle. But after consulting with the Tal-Shair, section chief. He had decided that a shuttle was a small price to pay to rid themselves of him. They could ill afford a ship to carry him to wherever it was he was bound next. And even then, they may never get that ship back, from wherever that was! Oh by the way my lord, could i look at that personal cloaker , please? Slowly as if not trusting he would return it, Maximus handed it over to him. Oh, relax, my lord . I just have to erase the code that allowed me too override lord Proclaimous's settings. A few deft strokes on the key pad, There done! Good as new um i restored his settings also ;D. Here you go my lord, he said ,dropping the device back into. Maximus outstretched hand. And now my lord, i must bid you farewell. I know you will use that information wisely. Ah one more tiny tidbit for you. Leaning over he whispered into Maximus's ear. Then briskly turned on one heel and strode over to the shuttle. climbing in through the hatch . A moment latter he was at the controls and with a wave , showing he was ready to liftoff. Maximus turned and closed the shuttle bay lock behind him. the Red light came on indicating a launch in progress. 'May you live in interesting times' The ancient curse kept popping to mind . Ever since he had read the disc. Interesting times! Interesting, a very poor choice of words to describe the events he had learned these last few days. Sheridan, had left. His vice president along with him. They simply dropped everything and headed for ... who knew where. Jumped on a whitestar and hypered out. The EA press had tried it's best to make it look like it was a planned And the new president put on a brave face. Assuring the public there was no reason to worry. Yeah right! A joint ISC, Lyran task force in EA space. Their fleets scattered over much of the galaxy. A vorlon on B5 talking in riddles. A Cylon base-star, menacingly approaching. And now, A new and unidentified race sending scout ships into EA space. No don't worry everything is under control! Sure it is . But before he could worry about that. He needed to do a bit of house cleaning himself. Spies! Spies, not for long ! No not for long. ......TBC

When Mars saw Maximus, he was slumped over sleeping. His head propped on his forearms. Sitting at his desk. The comp screen still active. It showed the latest report from the Vorlon home world. And it had come at a very steep cost. Mars stepped back out to the ante chamber. There he simply told Maximus's aide to, get him to bed. I'll handle matters till he is ready. The aide quietly walked back into Maximus's office. And Mars turned and stepped onto the transport pad. "bridge". Commander on the bridge ! Cried the young ensign . Mars waved his crew back to their stations. "as you were." Walking over to his command chair,he sat and began to review the data chip. It was a short transmission. The captain of the Ternyu must have known it would be. He had jammed all the scans of the new intruder into the chip. and explained. that their attempt to disengage by cloak had failed. So he did what any good officer would do. He attacked the new threat. Hoping to find some weakness, any weakness. That would aid his empire, in the battles to come against this foe. the fight was quick, the foe tore the light cruiser to pieces. Barley 5 minutes into the fight. Their weapons were new and potent. The new foe took the best shot from the Ternyu. like a bite from a Quren water bug . No effect at all. Oh the plasma hit it alright. But if any damage was dome it didn't seem to matter. The probe did show that their were life forms "of a sort" unlike any thing he had ever seen. And the new foe had sent a perplexing transmission before destroying them. It seemed like they wanted to enslave more than just destroy or conquer. He wasn't really sure what the message meant."we will add your uniqueness to our collective" ?? Resistance is futile. Well they wouldn't add much from the Terynu. It had gone down fighting. And He was sure the entire crew was lost in the destruction of the ship. Now the question was. Where were they headed next? And what, if anything, could the empire do, to hope to stop them?

Maximus, looked worn. He had an air of a warrior, in the middle of a battle. A battle which he doubted, could be won. A battle that had been foreseen, debated, and dreaded. And now that the day had dawned. The warriors who would fight the battle. Knew that it was going to be the either, glory or despair. The Borg. Their cold machine like appearance, and manner. An audacious affront too all, whom they would "assimilate". They were evil incarnate. eating the very souls of those who opposed them. Enslaving the both body and spirit. They must not! Could not, be allowed entry to the empire. Indeed Maximus knew that they could not even be allowed to conquer even those who were at odds with the empire. A foe so deadly that any alliance would be preferred . Rather than letting this evil spread. He had sent word to Proclaimous. That he should let it be known. The Empire would aid any who called on them ,to help defeat these demons. The Technology of their weapons was fearsome. Even with the weapons technology acquired from the Vorlons he was unsure of the result. The speed with which the Borg were spreading throughout the galaxy. was daunting. He only hoped for enough time to modify the empires ships. And that together with the other galactic powers they may find a weakness to exploit. A slight glimmer of hope. Needed to light the way to vanquish this implacable foe.

The days never seemed long enough. Still at the end of each days work ,he never felt so tired. The long hours spent in all the sorted tasks. The reports from the Tal-Shair, the reports from the science departments. The reports of the weapons research teams. He felt as if all his time was spent reading reports. . Every time he finished one, another would ring into his terminal. And of course they all had the urgent tag. As frustrating as it was, nearly every one his aide had forwarded on to him was indeed urgent. There had been the very unsettling news of the fall of the Narnian Home-world. But he also had heard rumors that the Earth Alliance was preparing,an attempt to remove the Borg from Narnia. The irony of that made Maximus smile. . An ironic smile, but a smile none the less. He had found very few reasons to smile of late. The Tal-Shair had passed on that the stranger. who had visited him. Had indeed accomplished the task Maximus had asked of him. Some wonders never cease. He could see why the Tal-Shair, thought so highly of that agent now. But time was still the variable, that would decide so many efforts underway. The empire had sent out offers of help to all. Yet the lack of replies was daunting. Couldn't they see? . Did they all believe they would be able to stand alone against the Borg? Did they have weapons which would stop this foe? His intelligence services, and spies, told him that this was not the case. Are they wrong? He could hope so, but deep in his bones he felt it was the oldest problem of all. Trust. Yes trust, and perhaps vengeance. Few of the galaxies nations trusted each other. And in all honesty rightly so. There had been treaty betrayals. And double dealing long before the Borg arrival. Still Maximus had held his empire true to its word, on every deal they had made. Would this be enough to persuade the Galactic nations. That there was no deception in the empires latest offers? The lack of responses seemed to spell out an unreceptive audience. Still Maximus would do all he could to aid every nation . They could only hope against hope, that their actions would convince the others of their sincerity. Time, it all comes down to time. The Borg have time on their side. none know where their home world is. And as long as that was true. The Borg had time on their side. Along with all their other advantages, Monstrous ships, And the division of their foes. Time, time we need more time. But in all the history of all the wars ever fought. No empire had ever truly had as much time, as they thought the needed. TBC...

My lord, Yes? Excuse me my lord, but i thought you would like to see this . His aide handed Maximus a copy of the latest report. Looking it over Maximus smiled, good news at last! Yes , Yes! ;D. Very good news indeed. Now if only his agents are as successful. . Only time will tell.

Just as Mars had thought. Eventually some good news would show up. The engineers had finally worked out the conversions. Now it was just a matter of combining the energy expenditures vs the structural stress. And of course the rebuilding of the mounts and relays. But still the work was moving along on schedule. Time as always was the enemy. It takes time to convert and of course facilities. Then again the empire luckily had enough engineers on hand to at least start the first project. Now if the Borg would be so kind as to leave them alone,oh say for a few years! Everything would be just fine It looked like the EA was reaping some benefits too. The departure of the "clown"{aka} Sheridan. Seemed at first like a death sentence. But the new regime was reigning in the military without too much trouble. And seemed to be willing to co-operate on joint efforts. According to the reports coming in from the Tal-Shair. The reports pointed to an effort to free the Narnian Home-World from the Borg. One could only hope that the poor Narnian population. Had not all been "assimilated" already. Mars shuddered at the thought of that. He only hoped that if the Empire fell. Gods forbid!!!. That he would fall in battle, and never suffer, such a dreadful fate. Propping his feet up and leaning back. His thoughts wondered back to Sheridan . Was it the cloning that had finally broken him? The constant bickering between nations? The stress of sharing his seat of power with Ho-Chi? Just what had driven him to abandon his nation? It must have been painful to watch his Home-world. Fall behind him before warping out . Headed to wherever it was he went. And if the Gods granted them a victory over the Borg. Would he ever return?History has one lesson that never changes. Even if they the Borg are defeated. Sooner or latter, a war would would rise again. Between whom, and why ,won't matter. War was, no strike that , is eternal. And theres an eternal supply of "heroes" who fight them as well. Mars had a peculiar thought. Who knows? He may return.. It made him grin. He may return, stranger things have happened.

Miss U 2 Max,.. and many other players,.. all players added something and that is what makes us a community. A good friend tonight,.. said I should visit the forums,.. and so I have stopped in to say HI to ALL! I hope you all do well against the Borg,.. it seems like a formidable foe indeed! I have not looked at the new ship list but imagine it is a nightmare for sure! I may be around some day,.. I hear B5 may be under assault soon,.. and would like to show up for its defense, maybe I can rally Ho Chi,.. in memory of better days and join in fun combat. Warp and Dfly,.. I hope your DN fleets off B5,.. are massing in defense of the station VS the Borg,.. rather than in attack mode. One of my many thoughts in dropping from the game I had, was that maybe the community of players could come more together and there could less of a focus on killing existing nations. I think Ho Chi felt the same. I have to admit that one of the few games I would show up for would be an assault on B5, bet Ho chi the same,.. so maybe in the back of my mind I will hope and I will play the George Bush card,... BRING IT ON !! LOL I can hear Postman groaning now. ;D Max am doing great, I joined the retired admirals crew and no run a druid in a D&D campaign. I will say the new 4.0 D&D is nothing like the old game I played back in the day,... Much learning to do LOL. Job is good, chicken are growing, garden is well, and lady is hot, life is d**n good. Getting old though,... LOLOLOLOLOL Anyways,.. to all of you Godspeed,.. and well wishes. May your heart be true and your spirit honorable! Sheridan #1

Greetings Max...yes I do read your tripe. Helps me keep abreast of the goings on in the game, kinda ;D.
I do well, glad to hear you are more active in the game once again.
As far as the next campaign, that seems to be a very long time away, not to mention whether or not my computer is/will still game playable with all these dang automatic updates and etc. But I will, when the time comes, read the rules and determine if sufficent changes and guarantees have been made waranting any decision on playing or not. I can alway hope. ;D
Life/flavor of a game is always dependant on the people playing the game. Scott did provide flavor, generally to the detriment of the EA LOL JK. But at times flavor is misconstrued, blown out of proportion, or taken personally which as we have seen in the past and at times in this game to be less than beneficial. I always thought the flavor was a necessary part of the game, but that's just me.
In the meantime, I am creating a decent map for B5 and maybe a good ST one as well.
Good luck with the rest of the game!
