I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC20. When I had a computer with Windows OP or XP or whatever, I could transfer the movies to the 'puter using the USB cable. I now have a 'puter with Visa Home Basic. The computer is an ACER Aspire T180. Vista does not support the transfer from camcorder with the USB cable. I downloaded the patch from Sony BUT it only allows a transfer with an i-link cable. I bought one and the camera has a port but the computer does not. any suggestions?

Vista sucks, my suggestion, however useless, if you have an old computer with XP use it, treasure it. Or make a dual boot system so for camcorder ops you can use XP... Not much help huh. You can get XP from some places still so if thats the issue...

try uninstalling all the programs related to the camera from the computer... then restart it... then install whatever the current software from sony is onto the computer....
sometimes patches don't quite work the way they're supposed to.

wish I had XP but I dont I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, using a free program (win DV) but nothing works. Vista sucks!
Can I add an i-llink port to my computer? Is there an i-link converter out there?

Hey Todd, I am not sure,.. but this sounds more like a cabling issue than a software issue. Ya I always like to jump on Vista too Anyways if it is a cabling issue, yes you can buy a card that will have the proper port for you camera on it. Also maybe a cable converter may be of help. I would suggest going to a local radio shack with the cable and explain to them your issue. You might also (if they cannot convert the cable to say USB) have to go to a PC shop and buy a card to put in your pc that will then accept the camera output cable. (or circut city, etc) This should be pretty easy to do. Hey give me a call !

This sounds like somebody needs to make a driver for the camera so Vista will interact with it through USB
