I wanted to share with you this interesting event while I was on vacation in Hawaii last month. I was coming back from a snorkeling cruise off of O'ahu, When I saw a submarine parked on the surface. (pretty rare for a sub not to be moving when on the surface). I am an ex-submariner in US Navy. (1988-1994) The sub that I saw was the same type (688I Fast Attack) that I served on back in San Diego. ( pretty cool ) I mentioned this to the cruise boat Captain. He was already in contact with the sub. (Standard practice for boats and ships to communicate there course and speed so there are no collisions). Well don't you know that not only was the sub the same type that I served on but it was in fact my old boat the USS Pasadena SSN752! How freaking awesome is that!!! They were re-assigned to Pearl Harbor sometime after I left. Man what are the odds of that happening? I guess I should have played the Lottery after that luck.

Not at sea. Maybe while in port but it is harder to do things like that now then when I was in the Navy.

Yeah, Thanks man for being a "Squid"I was just a "Grunt" (1992-2000) After the drawdown and the reduction of ships and mothballing of so many vessels, What's amazing is that it still exists!

I was watching the discovery channel on the super carriers pretty cool show,... but what shocked me was this statistic. Guess what it costs per day to keep a super carrier going?
36 million per day ! 1.3 billion a year
I told that to someone that,.. and they said "ya but think of the fuel bill alone". I reminded that it was nuclear powered and they chuckled.
PS and yes thanks for the service to our country.

Yeah and thats why so few countries can afford to even field them. The U.S. has about a dozen now (and a couple in mothballs) France 1 Russia 1 (barely) Britain 2 tiny carrers but building 2 new midsized (36 planes) carriers for F-35 Navy version. Spain 1 believe also small italy and Brazil had one each once but... China got an old Russian one but hasn't got it operational yet and india is waiting for years overdue to get an old Russian one rebuilt for them in the Ukriane i think I was watching the discovery channel on the super carriers pretty cool show,... but what shocked me was this statistic.
